GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

Here at Don’t Be A Monster, we want to transform communities among students in schools to be more inclusive, close-knit, and kind.

The Issue

This year has been one of the most difficult, stressful, and scary years to date. It’s not a truth we like to talk about, but depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts have been increasing steadily for the past several years- a year of social isolation, food insecurity, and instability at home are certainly not helping our kids’ mental health. A CDC survey found that “63% of 18 to 24-year-olds reported symptoms of anxiety or depression. 25% reported increased substance use to deal with the stress, and 25% said they had seriously considered suicide.”

We cannot continue to ignore mental health in this country, especially not with our children’s well-being at stake. This is why we felt it was imperative that we find a way to adapt our message to focus on mental health and find a way to reach our students, whether they are learning in a classroom or at home.

Our Impact

Even though we decided against doing our in-person assemblies as usual, we knew we had to do something. We completely adapted our entire program to be a Virtual Video Presentation, that talked about the most pressing issues for students this year and how they can learn ways to help themselves and their peers cope with the trauma of social isolation, health anxiety, or even death in the family.

“It’s important to be nice to others that are different from you because they have feelings too.” (Quote from a student during a Virtual Presentation)

The Virtual Presentation has reached over 82,000 students in 260+ schools so far! They have learned about empathy, kindness, bullying, and most importantly, how to be an Upstander during social distancing. Our students are able to better identify their emotions and know that by practicing self-care, we are nourishing ourselves to be better members of our community.

We need your help!

After we come together virtually and celebrate old traditions in new ways with our loved ones this Thanksgiving, why not use that holiday spirit for good? Instead of focusing on Black Friday spending, why not focus on Giving Tuesday contributing? 2020 certainly has not been an easy year for any nonprofit organization, and Don’t Be A Monster needs your support, now more than ever.

Every dollar counts. Donations of any and all sizes are greatly appreciated and will directly contribute to the creation and implementation of the 2021 Don’t Be A Monster Virtual Presentation AND In-Person Assemblies. We need you to help us grow this incredible program into the wonderful, life-saving resource it can be for students everywhere.

Plus, we’re offering some cool prizes for donations!

-Frank Pin or DBAM Logo Pin for Donations over $25

-DBAM Wristband for Donations over $50

-Frank String Doll Keyring for Donations over $150

-DBAM T-Shirt for Donations over $300

We believe that every student should feel safe at school and be surrounded by kindness. You can help us build a community of Upstanders so no one faces bullying alone.

Are you with us?
